Fort Inge Historical Park
A historical home to both the US military and the Texas Rangers!
Description
Originally named Camp Leona, Fort Inge was renamed in 1849 for Lieutenant Zebulon Inge, who died in the Mexican-American War. Until it closed in 1869, the post served as protection for settlers and the US-Mexican border, and escorts for mail and supplies. After its closure, it served as a Texas Rangers camp until 1884. Some ruins remain, but the park today is dominated by Mount Inge, a 140-foot high volcanic plug that looms over the landscape. Located south of Uvalde, the Fort Inge Historical Park is open 8 AM to 8 PM Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is $2.00 for adults 13 and over, $1.00 for kids, or $5.00 per carload.
