Description

Renowned Austin architect Frederick Ernst Ruffini designed and oversaw the building of the Old Blanco County Courthouse, and it was officially dedicated in 1886. It only served four years as a courthouse, as the county seat was moved to Johnson City in 1890. After that, the grand edifice served as a bank, hospital, opera house, library, town hall, and was added to the list of Texas Historic Landmarks in 1972. After falling into disrepair for a few years, the courthouse has since been extensively restored, and it can now be visited and toured by the public Monday to Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday noon to 4 PM.
