Supporting and boosting local businesses and events is at the very heart of what we do at Backroads Reservations! It’s been our great pleasure and privilege to meet folks from all walks of life in this way, and we’d like to put the spotlight on one group of them in this article.
The good folks at Biker Rallies of Texas are the devoted organizers of the most popular motorcycle rallies in the Hill Country. With major rallies in the spring and fall, they work nonstop to assure safety, organization, great memories, and a good time is had by all attending! They’ve got their start in 2000, when they arranged rallies in Liberty County and Kerrville, Texas. Two years later, they found their permanent home in Bandera. Let’s take a look at the two major events they currently host.
These rallies are held each spring and fall, when the Texas weather is as agreeable as it gets and baking heat isn’t rising of the scenic highways surrounding the Hill Country. The spring rally is called the Thunder in the Hill Country Rally, which usually takes place in late March, and the fall event is The Rumble on the River, which is generally planned for late September. These rallies have grown wildly in popularity over the years, and nowadays they draw thousands of attendees from all over the country and beyond. Both rallies call Mansfield Park in Bandera home; this is where everything happens when you’re not on the road!
The courses of both rallies take them over the fabled “Twisted Sisters” Hill Country highways, known both for their amazing scenery and the challenging twists and turns from which they got their nickname. One of the events sure to get you on the road is the Poker Run, where you draw a card at participating locations along the rally route and try to build the best poker hand you can. Drawing bad cards? Don’t give up; there’s a prize for lowest hand, too!
That’s not the only event taking place during the rally weekends, of course. With Texas radio legend Outlaw Dave as the official entertainment manager, emcee, and general trouble maker, you know you’re in for a weekend-long blowout! There will be incredible live music, and vendors of fantastic food, drink, and merchandise. Tough competition is the name of the game during the motorcycle field games, and you can take part in the scavenger hunt, karaoke party, wet t-shirt contest, tattoo contest, and other events being planned to take your rally weekend to the limit. Even when the main stage quiets down, the after party is an absolute blast. Our rally regulars always find ways to make things interesting! (Pro Tip: each night of the rally has a theme, so be prepared to dress up yourself and your surroundings accordingly.) Do keep in mind these rallies are restricted to attendees over 21 only, so be prepared for an event specifically for adults...and everything that may imply.
