Don’t let the ominous name fool you! The Devil’s Sinkhole State Natural Area northeast of Rocksprings is a 1,860-acre area set aside for the preservation of its ecosystem. Before recorded human history, a limestone dome collapsed, creating a 50 foot-wide shaft 350 feet deep; this is the Devil’s Sinkhole from which the park gets its name. This cavern was made a National Natural Landmark in 1971, and is the warm-weather home to over 3 million bats! Access to the park is by reservation only, where you can enjoy guided bat and birding tours, and nature walks. Check the link provided here for reservation and fee info.
