Just northeast of Johnson City is a relaxing and fun riverside getaway for the whole family: the Pedernales River Nature Park! You can swim, fish, canoe, and kayak on its sparkling waters, and there are hiking, biking, and equestrian trails here for those staying on dry land. With plenty of picnic tables and grills located throughout the park, it’s also a great place for a cookout! Keep in mind this is not a state park, so fishing licenses are required. The Pedernales River Nature Park is open sunrise to sunset year round, and admission for adults 13 and over is $5, and $12 for each horse and rider.
